Our Faces of Recruiting - The recruiting process at thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and ATLAS ELEKTRONIK
We spend a third of our lives at work - more time with our colleagues than with our partners, families or friends. That's why it's so important to have fun at work. What's more, we work more productively and learn faster when we're having fun. For Pia, a recruiter in the Human Resources department at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK, this is also an important requirement.
"When looking for a new job, it is not only the job itself that is important, but also the environment and culture of the company," says Pia. Personally, she has always enjoyed working with people, which is why HR is the right place for her. Meeting new people in the recruiting process motivates Pia every day.
A recruiter's typical day at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK
When we think about recruiting, we have a certain image in mind: finding the right people for the company. But what does a typical recruiter's day look like and what are the tasks involved? "My day usually starts with reviewing the applications received in the morning, answering emails and getting an overview of the day," says Pia. Of course, interviews, both online and onsite, are also part of her day. In meetings, Pia coordinates with her colleagues on new positions, job postings, and liaising with candidates and colleagues from other departments. "I especially enjoy working with many different people. It is always exciting to meet new candidates and find out what motivates them and what makes them tick," says Pia.
Search for the right candidates
Recruiting: A challenging task. Even more so in times of labor shortages and economic crises. That's why Pia and the recruiting team around her also rely on the help of their colleagues at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK in their search for new talent: "On the one hand, it's important to show potential applicants who we are and why we like working at ATLAS," says Pia. The employer branding and marketing departments are particularly important in this regard.
"On the other hand, active sourcing plays a big role: it is important to actively approach people and show them the opportunities and benefits that our company offers. As a recruiter, Pia doesn't search for candidates herself: "Active sourcing is done by my colleagues." When they forward an application to Pia, the recruiter first looks at the candidate's profile. “I check what the candidate has done before to make sure the requirements match the talent," says Pia. On the one hand, soft skills are important so that candidates can work well with their future colleagues; on the other hand, hard skills must also match so that the potential employee feels comfortable in the company in the long term.
The application process at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK
If the candidate is a good fit for the open position, Pia and her colleagues forward the application to the relevant departments to see if an initial interview can be arranged. "Then the first interviews take place, and if both sides express interest, a second round is scheduled," Pia explains.
To ensure that all applicants have a positive application experience at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK, Pia maintains regular and transparent communication with individuals. "If an application process is delayed due to illness or internal deadlines, applicants need to be informed," explains Pia. "I always try to put myself in the applicants' shoes and make sure that all information has been passed on and all points have been discussed.
Interviews are exciting for both parties, but recruiting can also have a downside. What happens when it becomes difficult to fill an open position? "I look for new opportunities. I look at the job posting, the target group, and the requirements for the position," Pia explains. Sometimes all that is needed is to change certain terms or phrases to make things easier to understand.
How to apply at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK
The most common mistakes people make when applying for a job are often related to document submission. "Missing documents or not answering questions will slow down the application process," explains Pia. ATLAS ELEKTRONIK also offers to submitan application video. "This is a good idea to briefly introduce yourself," says Pia. "It's important for us to get to know the person behind the application."
And what's the best way to prepare for an interview? "It is important for candidates to think about the job and their own expectations," Pia explains. "What do I expect from the job and what aspects of the company did I find interesting before the interview? Is the company and the role a good fit for me?"
